The week of March 6, Susanne and I traveled to Charlotte, NC. I was invited to speak at First Wesleyan Church in Kannapolis (outskirts of Charlotte) on going through affliction as a believer. On the way, we arranged to meet Russ Butcher and his lovely wife Jill. I had met Russ through twitter. After exchanging a few emails and enjoying some phone conversations, we were looking forward to meeting them.
Russ and Jill are great people. Russ is a pastor in a church plant in Logansville, GA. Their gathering, Church at the Grove, is an exciting and living demonstration of the simplicity needed to reach our generation. Their love for our Lord Jesus is a refreshing example of what I enjoy about meeting new leaders. That is, when we have the Spirit of Christ through the new birth, we feel like long lost friends in a few simple moments.
Church of the Grove is a thriving fellowship of believers who take the call to disciple and reach the lost seriously. While keeping things free from micro management overkill, Russ and Jill lead by example. Their genuine love for Jesus, coupled with their easy going humility makes their friendship even more special. Susanne and I thoroughly enjoyed their company as we had lunch together.
If you live in the Atlanta, GA area, you should visit with Church at the Grove. If those who gather are anything like Russ and Jill, it is a place of genuine Christian love and one where you will be challenged and encouraged to follow Jesus! Thanks to Russ and Jill for making our long drive to Charlotte a pleasure! Visit Church at the Grove and check them out. http://www.churchatthegrove.com/
Meeting new friends – twitter style! How sweet it is!
