There has been a media firestorm since Phil Robertson, the founding member of Duck Dynasty, was quoted in a magazine interview and shared his opinions about homosexuality. The A&E network has suspended him from production indefinitely, and millions of followers of the show are coming to his defense. What was Phil’s great crime? What was him unimaginable statement that warranted this reaction from the media elites? He simply stated his beliefs about the sinfulness of homosexuality and the perversion about the lifestyle from a biblical perspective.
However, this issue is not about the ducks! Television is flooded with many programs that the average God-fearing American does not care to watch. Flood after flood of immoral and hetero-phobic programs are constantly shoved down our throats by the network elites, the main stream media and the political correct crowd of Washington D.C. The show Duck Dynasty simply gives parents a program to watch with their kids that does not require them to guard the remote for fear of some ungodly, immoral, perverted statement or action they did not feel was appropriate to have to discuss with their children every night. Families can relax and laugh together without concern over God’s name being used in vain, or seeing homosexuals kiss, or couples living together outside of marriage, or of having citizens with morals and faith in Christ become targets of mockery and ridicule.
But it is still bigger than this! Freedom of thought, faith and speech have been trampled by the A&E network. Tolerance has been preached by the homosexual community for years. But, like the Moslems and militant atheists, once the homosexual crowd is supported by the majority, they become some of the most intolerant people around. They cry, “Just give us respect,” but fail to do the same whenever the shoe is on the other foot. Americans will not be forced to accept a lifestyle they deem as immoral, ungodly, unclean and perverted. We will not be silenced. Our faith in Christ and the timeless truths of the Scriptures are our standard. We offer no apologies for that. We will be respectful and tolerant of every man’s right to live as he pleases so long as it does not harm others. However, we will not surrender our convictions or beliefs about what is right and what is wrong to any one.
Our country was founded on freedom of speech, and we have been silently watching those freedoms erode year after year in the public square, the marketplace, the school systems, hollywood, and the political arena. However, we will not be told what we can or cannot like because of our beliefs. If you read the statement released by the hetero-phobic organization GLAAD, you saw one of the most dangerous statements imagined. Many seemed to have missed it, but here it is.
GLAAD rep Wilson Cruz responded to Robertson’s remarks with a statement*:
“Phil and his family claim to be Christian, but Phil’s lies about an entire community fly in the face of what true Christians believe.”
Did you see it? GLAAD wants to define what “true Christians believe.” Can you believe the absurdity of that? A homosexual, and hetero-phobic organization wants to define what we believe and determine who is and who is not a true Christian. The government is continually following suit with their mandates and the efforts of the political correct censors. The news organizations are doing the same.
If we fail to see this and stand for what the Scriptures say in our generation, our children will see the demise of our freedoms and be forced to live in a fascist society that legalizes legal action against Christians. Yes, it is about more than the ducks! It is about us having the same rights as every other person, as guaranteed by the Constitution. Our faith is under constant attack. Not just what we say, but what we are free to quote and the freedom to define ourselves!
You will find some so-called Christian leaders encouraging us to stay quiet. Some will even discourage stands over this issue. That bunch is part of the problem. They are spineless and exhibit a lack of spiritual fortitude. It is not about the Robertsons or a television show. I’m sure there are things about them we would all disagree with. It is about the attack on every Christian in America. We will not be silent. Let us stand truthfully and honorably, knowing that we represent each other and our Lord Jesus Christ with our reactions and statements. But by all means, let us STAND! And while we do, let’s be careful to attend to the words of the Apostle Peter.
“Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.” (1Pet. 2:12)
